for deer season, where to go? Indian Lake/Blue Mountain Fish
and Game has a nice range, go there. But I'm not a member, and
$40 is way too much to pay to do that. After all it doesn't
cost the range anything to have me shoot there right? No
problem... just go over when the gate is open, like most
weekends. Oh... the gate is locked? No problem - here's the
combo I got from my buddy, he's a member. Hey if your deer
camp buddies need to shoot just take them with you. "
Unfortunately we're seeing this story play out too
often at our range. Maybe people feel because they only need the
range for a few minutes it doesn't cost the club anything? Well it
does. Liability insurance is increasingly hard to get (thanks to
our Governor's distaste for the NRA and gun owners) with some
local ranges having lost their coverage with less than 30 days
notice. And the cost is increasing. The requirements for
record keeping, liability release forms and limited access
(members only), etc. get more difficult every year. Range
maintenance, repair, and improvements are all funded primarily
through membership dues, as are our youth and training programs.
Think $40 is too much? Shop around - it's a bargain.
When non-members use our range (unless they are
guests) they are stealing from those who diligently pay
their dues. Our insurance company requires that we limit and
control access to our facility and non-members are NOT covered.
The only exceptions are special events. And now for the legal
stuff:
Unauthorized use of our facility
constitutes defiant trespass and theft of
services. The signs at the gate are very clear:
MEMBERS ONLY! and POSTED - NO
TRESPASSING!
To our members who faithfully pay their dues -
Thank You! Please remember to keep your membership card with you
and please don't be offended if our RSOs or officers ask if you
are a member. We're trying to remember all your faces but we
aren't there yet! And please abide by all range rules and safety
protocols including COVID precautions. Guests are
limited to 2 persons per membership and are required to
sign in on every visit and complete a release form.
(you can avoid that inconvenience by joining!)
To our unauthorized users (freeloaders) - if we
catch you we may prosecute - and then the $40 will really look
like a bargain.
